What is Reiki?
Reiki (pronounced ray-key) is a system of natural healing that is activated by intention. It works on every level, not just the physical. It is believed that this system of healing was first used by Tibetan Buddhist monks, but was developed by Mikao Usui in Japan in the 20th Century. The most common definition of the word Reiki is ‘universal life energy’. It is a non-invasive therapy which aims to treat holistically. Reiki is a complimentary therapy and expands treatment options, but is not an alternative to conventional medicine. You should always consult your GP about acute or infectious diseases, and when your problem is urgent.
What happens during a treatment session?
A session is usually carried out with the recipient lying down on a couch or sitting comfortably in a chair. No clothing needs to be removed as the energy passes through all materials. I will gently place my hands on or near the body. Energy is automatically drawn in by the recipient and used where appropriate. You may experience it as a flow of energy, warmth, coolness, mild tingling, other sensations or nothing at all. Whatever you experience, the energy is working in the right way for you. It is very relaxing and has a calming effect. You may need to rest for a while afterwards and drink plenty of water over the next few days. The energy will continue to work in beneficial ways.
How many treatments will I need?
Every Reiki treatment will make a difference. However, a course of regular treatments may be more effective. These could be weekly, fortnightly or less often. I will advise you on this, but it is subject to your own preferences. Frequency can be changed at any time according to your progress.
Does my practitioner follow a Code of Ethics?
I am a practitioner member of the UK Reiki Federation and as such adhere to a Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice. This can be viewed online.
Why choose Reiki?
Reiki can help us to cope during times of illness and stress. It encourages relaxation and brings a balance to the mind and the emotions. A sense of well-being is often reported.
Regular treatments help clients to face life’s challenges with a positive attitude. It also encourages a healthier lifestyle, such as taking more exercise, eating a better diet and may reduce the need for stimulants such as alcohol and cigarettes.
It is a safe option for people of all ages and with a wide variety of medical conditions. This includes mums-to-be and the newborn.
